Marie Antoinette
1755-1793
Queen of France
Born in Vienna, the daughter of Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor she later became queen to King Louis XVI of France. Placed under house arrest in 1789 during the French Revolution and four years later convicted of high treason and executed by guillotine, on the Place de la Révolution (now Place de la Concorde).
“I was a queen, and you took away my crown; a wife, and you killed my husband; a mother, and you deprived me of my children. My blood alone remains: take it, but do not make me suffer long.”
