Mary Rose - Henry
c.1530-1545
Died in 1545 when the Royal Navy flagship Mary Rose sank at the Battle of the Solent. Henry’s role on board is unknown although deep shoulder blade depressions suggest a life of heavy lifting along with a dislocated hip, suggests that he was fairly active. Isotope analysis indicates that he grew up in the West or along the South coast of England but his DNA suggest he is genetically similar to current-day Moroccans, Mozabite Berbers of Algeria or individuals from the Near East.
