George Carew

George Carew

c.1504-1545

Vice-Admiral, Sir George Carew

Tudor English soldier, adventurer and, all too briefly Vice-Admiral during the reign of King Henry VIII. Carew had a wild youth and was implicated in conspiracies against the English crown but later became a trusted advisor and military officer in the King's service. He died in 1545 when the Royal Navy flagship Mary Rose sank at the Battle of the Solent.

George Carew

"More forward than circumspect."
